Acne is the term for plugged pores (blackheads and whiteheads), pimples, and even deeper lumps (cysts or nodules) that occur on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and even the upper arms. Acne affects most teenagers to some extent. However, the disease is not restricted to any age group; adults in their 20s - even into their 40s - can get acne. While not a life threatening condition, acne can be upsetting and disfiguring. When severe, acne can lead to serious and permanent scarring.

The goal for our acne patients is to provide the appropriate education, preventive measures, therapeutics and cosmeceuticals to maintain a healthy glow. Our treatments include our own line of VuSkin care acne therapeutics, chemical peels, prescription topicals, and oral medications.

Eczema

Eczema or atopic dermatitis is a general term encompassing various inflamed skin conditions. In general, eczema comes and goes, and this condition is often based on external factors. In people with eczema, the inflammatory response to irritating substances is overactive, causing itching and scratching. However, for most patients the condition may be managed well with treatment and avoidance of triggers.

Although eczema may look different from person to person, it is most often characterized by dry, red, extremely itchy patches on the skin. Eczema is sometimes referred to as "the itch that rashes," since the itch, when scratched, results in the appearance of the rash. The rash may occur on any part of the body.

We primary focus on educating our patients about preventative measures of preventing eczema. In addition, we use any number of treatments available to ease the discomfort and relieve the symptoms of eczema and atopic dermatitis including prescription corticosteroid and non-corticosteroid creams, antibiotics, antihistamines, tar treatments, and phototherapy.
